KAMPALA, May 30, 2015: Decimalworks Ltd, a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, announced that the Uganda Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) selected Decimalworks to lead the effort towards sustainable management of electronic waste.
MoICT serves as a policy and coordination Ministry for the ICT sector in Uganda. The ICT sector is structured into three levels namely, Policy, Regulatory and Operational. At the Regulatory level the sector is coordinated by semi-autonomous institutions. These are: Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) for communications, Broadcasting Council (BC) for broadcasting and the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U) for Information Technology. parental blocker The operational level is spearheaded by various government agencies and the private sector.
The ICT sector is composed of the following sub-sectors, namely Communications, Broadcasting Infrastructure, Information Technology and Information Management services. With regard to capacity building the sector is supported by various training institutions, ranging from Universities to Institutions such as Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT).
At a meeting with the MoICT Permanent Secretary Dr. Jimmy Samanya, he stressed the importance of proper e-waste management and was excited to work with the dedicated team from Decimalworks Ltd. Nicaragua . Dr Benjamin Kanagwa, a the Managing Director of Decimalworks Ltd commented on the MoICT selection that “we are looking forward to working with MoICT in the context of sustainable e-waste management. We wish to provide a concrete set of enforceable and sustainability guidelines that are in tandem with the unique challenges and aspirations of Ugandans and her friends”.
